About Chloe Dunk
I’ve worked in Financial Services for over 10 years. Since moving over to the advice side and becoming a Financial Planner, it struck me how many of my friends, colleagues and connections said to me they didn’t really understand the world of finance, and they found it quite an intimidating subject. I found this quite intriguing, and when digging deeper, I discovered all of the different reasons as to why this was the case. From advisers who would only pay attention to the male in the room, through to the biased language used on marketing materials (women don’t all just want money to buy handbags, ok?), and also the lack of acknowledgement around how different the financial milestones are in a woman’s life compared to their male counterpart (the gender pay gap, taking time off work due to caring for children or elderly relatives, menopause, and women living longer to name but a few) mean that many women have shied away from financial advice. Either because they don’t feel their individual needs are understood, or aren’t confident enough to try to tackle it themselves and don’t want to feel intimidated in front of an adviser.
So that’s how It’s Her Wealth was born. I wanted to create an online platform, to help everyone to understand their finances better – whether that’s simply understanding how to budget better, what to think about when you’re looking to buy a house, but also delving into the topics of products such as ISAs and pensions, and the benefits of these – my vision was for this to be a one stop shop for all things finance. No jargon, just simple and easy to understand posts to help educate you around your finances, and in a way that’s relatable. My hope is that this will give you the confidence to manage your finances better, the education to feel confident when making decisions, and taking the next step to seek financial advice when it’s needed without feeling intimidated.
